FAQ's
Got a tattoo you’re ready to say goodbye to? Whether it's a mistake, a change of heart, or just time for clean skin, we’ve got the answers you need! Dive into our FAQ page where we break down everything you need to know about laser tattoo removal—no fluff, just the facts (and maybe a few fun surprises along the way). From how it works to what to expect, we’re here to guide you through every step of the process.
-
How does laser tattoo removal work?Laser tattoo removal works by using high-intensity light beams to break down the ink pigments in your tattoo. The laser targets the ink without damaging the surrounding skin, and your body naturally absorbs and eliminates the broken-down ink over time through your lymphatic system.
-
Is laser tattoo removal painful?Pain tolerance varies from person to person, but most clients describe the sensation as similar to the feeling of a rubber band snapping against the skin. While we don’t provide numbing cream at the clinic due to regulations, you’re welcome to apply it yourself before your session for a more comfortable experience. Rest assured, we’ll make sure you’re as relaxed as possible throughout the process!
-
How many sessions will I need?Ah, the million-dollar question! The number of sessions depends on a few factors like your tattoo’s size, colour, and how deep and dense the ink is. On average, most tattoos need about 6-12 sessions to say "see ya later" for good. Click here to see our blog post on how many sessions it may take to remove your tattoo.
-
How long do the sessions take? Each session typically lasts anywhere from 10-30 minutes, depending on the size and complexity of the tattoo. You can return to your normal activities shortly after your session, though we do recommend following aftercare instructions closely.
-
Are there any side effects? While laser tattoo removal is generally safe, there are a few mild side effects you might experience right after your session. Here’s what to expect: Redness & Swelling: Think of it like a sunburn—your skin might look a little pink or swollen for a short time, but don’t worry, it usually fades within a few hours. Blistering or Scabbing: Some clients may notice small blisters or scabs forming as the skin heals. Just let it naturally heal—no picking, please! This is a sign your body is working its magic to clear out the tattoo. Temporary Skin Sensitivity: Your skin might feel a bit sensitive or dry, but it should return to normal soon after healing. Pigmentation Changes: In rare cases, there might be slight changes in skin pigmentation (either darker or lighter spots), but this is usually temporary and fades over time. Remember, these side effects are usually short-lived and part of the body’s natural healing process! Follow our aftercare tips to keep your skin happy and healthy as it recovers.
-
Is there any downtime after treatment? There is minimal downtime after laser tattoo removal. You may experience mild redness or swelling at the treatment site, similar to a sunburn. Most clients can return to work and daily activities right away, but we do recommend avoiding direct sun exposure and following proper aftercare instructions for best results.
-
Can all tattoos be removed?Laser tattoo removal is effective on most tattoos, but results can vary based on factors like ink colour, tattoo location, and the type of ink used. Dark-coloured tattoos (especially black ink) typically respond the best to laser treatment, while lighter colours like green and yellow may take more time to fade.
-
Are there any risks involved?Laser tattoo removal is a safe procedure when performed by a trained professional. However, as with any treatment, there are risks, including scarring, changes in pigmentation, and infection if aftercare instructions are not followed. We take every precaution to minimize risks and ensure your safety throughout the process.
-
How soon will I see results? You may begin to notice some fading after your first session, but full results typically take a few months as the ink is gradually broken down and eliminated by your body. The process is gradual, and it's important to be patient while waiting for optimal results.
-
What should I do after my removal session? After your session, we recommend following these steps: Keep the treated area clean and dry. Apply the aftercare ointment as directed. Avoid sun exposure, soaking the area in water, baths, saunas etc. Do not pick or scratch the treated area to prevent scarring. Our team will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions tailored to your skin's needs.

Can I remove a tattoo that is older and already faded?Yes! Older tattoos or those that have already faded can still be treated with laser removal. In fact, older tattoos are often easier to remove since there’s less ink for the laser to break down. But here’s the catch—newer tattoos take a bit longer to fade. Since the ink is still fresh and settled deeper in the skin, it can take more time to break it down completely. But don’t worry, we’ll help you get there, no matter the age of your tattoo!

How should I prepare?Do: Shave the area if needed (but avoid waxing or plucking) a day or two before your session to ensure the area is smooth. Hydrate! Drink plenty of water leading up to your session—healthy, hydrated skin is always easier to treat. Arrive with clean skin—make sure the treatment area is free of lotions, oils, or makeup before your appointment. Let us know about any skin sensitivities or changes to any medication you are on—this will help us tailor your treatment for the best results! Don’t: Don’t tan or get sunburned before your session—sunburned or tanned skin can be more sensitive and may increase the risk of side effects. Avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medications (like aspirin) for at least 24 hours before your appointment to reduce the risk of bruising or increased sensitivity. Don’t pick at or scratch your tattoo before your session, as damaged skin may not heal as well.
